We developed a solution for car parking attendants for a major supplier of car-parking enforcement solutions.
The key features of this solution are:
· Running on ruggedized handheld devices with Windows CE operating system
· Arabic language
· Integrated printing
· GPRS, 3G and WiFi communications
· SQL Server replication between backend SQL Server and SQL Server Compact Edition on the device
This project was a port of a Windows Mobile 6 application to Windows CE 4.2 to take advantage of a particular ruggedized handheld device. The goal was to retain one code base for the existing Windows Mobile application, and the new Windows CE version. This was further complicated as the CE system was to run ‘landscape’ only and used an internal printer.
A key requirement of the project was to allow use of Arabic languages in the solution. The version of Windows CE used on the device doesn’t support ‘right-to-left’ languages, so we created a code library to reverse strings, and print in both Arabic and English on the device.
The project used SQL Server CE, replication, GPS, communications (GPRS, 3G and Wi-Fi) and made full use of the abilities of Windows Embedded handheld devices. This project needed our experience and expertise to retain one code base, and implement ‘right-to-left’ on the Windows CE 4.2 platform.
The project was completed on time, and to budget.
