I finally got this to post.

If I boot an IR-equipped computer without IRMON running as a startup program, then right-click and attempt to send a file to another computer that is running IRMON, I get a null result. This suggests that IRMON must be run at startup or run manually from control panel before an infrared transfer can be executed. Does this have something to do with the architecture of the IRDA stack? What is at the heart of this failed process?
